Altrincham 1908 maps

Images of 1908 maps of Altrincham, Cheshire have been digitally printed onto fabric and developed with applique, reverse applique and stitch.
The pieces record the buildings and roads that have remained and changed over the years. Julie grew up a few miles from here and has seen the shops go through several changes of use, recently the success of the refurbishment of the market hall into an award winning food hall has given the town a new lease of life. The Chapel Street piece commemorates the street where 161 men volunteered and 29 lost their lives during WW1. King George V called it the 'bravest little street in England'.
